Bailey Square

Picture
George Towsey wearing a sash in front of the Grand United Order of Odd Fellows of Hamilton, Ohio, ca. 1908. The parade is a celebration of Peter Ogden Day. Peter Ogden was born in the West Indies and served on the S.S. Patrick Henry as a steward. He was the founder of the Grand United Order of Odd Fellows in America, the segregated Odd Fellows, formed because Blacks were not allowed membership in Odd Fellows. Photo is at the park on South 2nd Street in Hamilton. Photo from the Butler County Historical Society, Hamilton, Ohio.
