20,000 people packed onto High Street between Sixth and Seventh Streets to view the release.
Camera enthusiasts were disappointed by the release so late that it was too dark for photos.
The Hamilton Gas & Electric Company provided gas for the lift, 64,000 ft. of gas.
The supplies in the balloon included ten gallons of water, 6 gallons of cold black coffee, 25 cakes of chocolate, 100 chicken sandwiches, 3 doz boiled eggs, and 12 jars of pickles.
The route of the balloon after leaving Hamilton went near Venice and directly over Shandon.
