The Pioneer Cemetery
The Pioneer Cemetery - until 1863 - rather sloppily transferred to Greenwood.
Then in the 1880’s the city paid to have gravestones just covered up.
In 1833 there was a cholera outbreak. A Rossville woman died a few days before her wedding day. Her scheduled nuptial day became the day of her funeral. According to her wish she wore her wedding dress as her body was interred in the Rossville Cemetery.
A few days later the lifeless body of her fiancé was found sprawled over her flower covered grave. The man - who died of a self inflicted gunshot wound to the heart - was buried near the woman he planned on marrying.
In ensuing years, on #### the anniversary of their planned wedding, as the clock strikes midnight you can see the couple dancing in the cemetery, she in her wedding gown.
